…and I have been busy. Love my queer theory paper, even though I’d love to spend another millennium rewording and augmenting parts. But, had to switch gears for my arts-based research paper. Which, this may come as a surprise to you, I have been struggling with. I haven’t counted but I have at least a dozen if not twenty super collages to share. I am pretty proud of them. I just don’t think of them as part of a research method. They were fun and they helped me work through more of my thoughts and queries on Foucault. So what?

Which is where I am with my other twenty environ pager.

It doesn’t help that I write adjacent to this:

I keep the door closed, but I know what is inside. Which is why at this hour, I find myself opening the magic door and making.

I started Mom’s Day gifts last night. I had high hopes, but I ended up with three. The three majors. In my excitement, I sent one off already to my biological mom. But, here are the other two, attached.

The spoon makes me laugh. They’re magnets. I am embarrassed to say that I just learned that there is a nearly interminable supply of magnets on the cover of our yellow pages. And, I never knew.

That’s it for tonight. Have a swell Sunday. Many received goodies to post along with some collages that I made and am rather proud of. I will leave you in suspense.

Bonne Nuit!

I’m not sure if I am approaching the finish line or if the finish line is approaching me, but I have two twenty page papers due Monday. One is just about finished. The other is where I need to spend my efforts this weekend. I’m dragging my feet a bit because I am beat, but I’ll find the energy and get it done.

I will catch up with mail and posts after Monday sometime. In the mean time, I noticed this really cool fundraising idea for the Portland Zine Symposium. Go to this link and buy a blank postcard for five dollars, make art on it, and send it back to them for a display at the Symposium in August. Sounds fun, non? I am going to send something for sure.

peace,

just letting you know…

I’ve received letters, mail art, and e-mails that I am behind on. I finish up in May and should be able to catch up then. I must tell all of you how appreciative I am of your mailings. This has been a very stressful semester. I lost my funding and every funding door that I try to open closes in my face. The budget crisis in our state is supposedly to blame. My politics tell me that it is more complicated than that. No matter. I am very appreciative of your amazingness and will respond shortly. In the mean time, please send me good energy. I need it.

Much love,

mm

One of my favorite clicks is WAFA (We Are Fucking Awesome) Global Artist Collective. They redesigned their website and I realized that my side link to their postcards wasn’t working anymore. It should be working now.

I am working on another collage zine for a class of mine, actually. A visual interpretation of Michel Foucault’s “History of Sexuality Vol. 1.” It may sound esoteric but the idea is that I try to make some of Foucault’s ideas accessible to non-academics. I’ll post the final result on this blog, of course.

I thought I’d share some of the postcards from the WAFA site that I most liked and that are inspiring me. I am by no means as talented, but I am having fun. See more of their postcards here. And check out their new zine WAFA Zine 03.

I have been peeking at Lindsay’s work a lot as well. Lindsay is a mail artist whose blog is GOOD VIBEZ. Some of my favorite work by her is here.

Back to my paper strewn desk!

play,
